Illustrations from Descriptive Guide to the Adirondacks and Handbook of Travel by E. R. Wallace, 1875

I have previously posted images over on Adirondack Shelter from Wallace’s 1875 Guide to the Adirondacks. Above are some recent scans. Some of these nicer drawings and images from older 19th century books such as this are great for reproducing and framing or putting on notecards and postcards (or T-shirts, bags and mousepads if you want to get carried away). Being in the public domain makes them great for using and reproducing. The image above takes you to a page where I have made a handful of these into prints and cards. Soon, I think I will put together some images on calendars and maybe even some composites on old maps. They are great drawings of local scenes from Saratoga to Ausable Chasm and Wilmington’s High Falls Gorge to Mount Marcy, John Brown’s Grave, Placid Lake, and Sawteeth Mountan.

Please Post Here With Suggestions

This is not a blog with a lot of active postings. This is more a page of resources and links. The two blogs below, Adirondack Book Review and Adirondack Shelter contain most of my active posts. If you have a link suggestion, addition or correction, please submit it by replying to this post. A valid URL is required, as is the location of the organization.
